Want to know about Oscars of the fashion world: the Met Gala 2018? Read on.
Fondly known as the “fashion’s biggest night out,” the Met Gala 2018 is undeniably a pinnacle of iconic style. The Met Gala event is a fundraising benefit held for the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and is a great platform for celebrity stars, creative youth and industry biggies.
Founded by Eleanor Lambert, the benefit was first held in 1948 to seek donations from the New York’s high society. This event is also a curtain raiser of sorts to the highly anticipated and much awaited grand opening of the Costume Institute’s annual fashion exhibition that is opening on opening on May 10, 2018.
The Met Gala 2018 Theme
Labeled as the Met’s most controversial theme yet, ‘Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination’ is this year’s theme. This edition of Met Gala features over 40 Vatican vestments and accessories spanning 15 papacies. Renowned curator Andrew Bolton is believed to have visited the papacies least 10 times to secure pieces that have never left the Vatican’s possession before.
Who Wore What
Singing sensation Rihanna lived up to her fame when she arrived on the red carpet dressed as a fashionable Pope in a stunning celestial silver gown. The dress was pearl embellished Maison Margiela designed by John Galliano and wore along with matching robe and headpiece. Her ensemable wowed everything with the silvers, blacks and golds, apart from pearls, crystals and papal mitre.
Our own Bollywood superstar and 2018 TIME 100 honoree Deepika Padukone literally stole the show in a gorgeous Prabal Gurung dress at the gala. She wore a red voluminous gown which she accessorized with extra long earrings and slick back hair style.
Not to be left behind, our desi girl created some international buzz with her stunning deep burgundy velvet gown paired with an amazing gold beaded hood. Ralph Lauren, the designer of the dress, had uploaded the picture of the head gear on his instagram and revealed the secret behind the magical hood.
Here’s what he said on his Instagram post:

For the gala, Kardashian wore a liquid chainmail dress that was perfectly sculpted to her hourglass figure, complete with two cross embellishments. Her look was attenuated by her super high ponytail and over-the-top lashes.
Madonna took the theme to the next level with her full church Goth attire. She arrived in a black dress by Jean Paul Gaultier that she accessorized with a crucifix dotted crown, layered cross necklaces, a net veil, and a handful of black roses. We think she kind of killed it.
After making a stunning entrance in a rose-covered gown by British designer Richard Quinn, Amal Clooney made a surprise outfit change and gave a new look inside the event. Her second gown was a red mosaic gown that she paired with all-red accessories including drop earrings, a clutch, satin pumps, and Christian Louboutin heels.
And that’s how the stars at the Met Gala 2018 edition sizzled and gave paparazzis the night of their life.
